From start to finish, the way this book takes you through the motions is incredible. Sensitive topics not spoken about in Asian culture have been brought to the surface in the most accurate way, showing the growth of society and the reality of being Asian in the western world. Would highly recommend

A very well-written, engaging first book from Mala Kumar. The stories of all three women are interesting and exciting and create an entertaining page-turner. The author has clearly researched all the geographical and historical backdrop of her story well. The attention to detail is impeccable, and the author does a lovely job of weaving in culture, politics, law, religion, and current events into a great story. The Paths of Marriage offers a rare glimpse into one character's experience as a third generation Indian immigrant and a lesbian, but all three main characters are strong, inspiring women with unique identities and challenges. I look forward to reading more from this author in the near future!

Mala Kumar shed light on so many people's stories in a passionate, hopeful, realistic and respectful way. Though I don't have much in common with the characters I was able to empathize with them, walk their journey with them, cry and rejoice with them. Her descriptions reminded me of Jhumpa lahiris richness and pace. It is as emotional as it is informative. I'm adding this to the required reading list of my feminist syllabus.

Could have been edited down. But I enjoyed reading the book. Explores the intersection of cultural and sexual minorities, the violence of the caste system, and American myopia about the rest of the world.
