著者について

Lily R. Mason is a writer and caregiver from California. She holds a B.A. in psychology and a Master's in Counseling. She has written novels about queer women in many genres: coming of age, domestic drama, and multiple realities. In 2015 she plans to publish two additional novels: a feminist and multicultural retelling of classic children's stories, and a work of historical fiction about queer women in WWI New York. Her goal as a writer is to inspire hope and kindness in readers around the world, and to give voice to the women who are often written out of other stories.

This is an absolutely lovely story that I wish more people knew about. It's a rarity - historical f/f with a happy ending! - and the writing is stunning. Joan's disability is handled with grace, and her relationship with Paloma is both touching and beautifully written. The sense of time and place in this book is excellent, as well, and I loved the two main characters from their first entrances. Highly recommended.

This is SUCH a good story. It's set in the early 1900s in New York City. The story follows Joan and her family as they land in America from Italy. You grow close to Joan and root for her throughout the struggles of daily life as a new immigrant. Love finds its way into the storyline, forming deep roots with each new chapter. I laughed. I cried. This story is beautiful. It's the kind of story that stays with you forever. It's the perfect story to emphasize that love is love. Love is not logical. Love follows no rules. It just IS. And sometimes you must give in to it.

I was taken by the book from page 1. It is well written, well set in period, well paced, it is a lovely, simple but adorable love story. But above all, I truly value the fact that the main character has a physical disability. This alone is so refreshing and makes it stand out against all the scores of romance novels where the characters are almost perfect.

I absolutely adore this story. It was such a beautiful read, and I'm just annoyed that I can't go back and read it all again for the first time! I fell in love with Joan and Paloma - they're characters who pull you in and coax you to root for them from beginning to end. The tough life facing Italian immigrants moving to America isn't lost in the prose. It's gritty and hard and challenging, which just makes all the more heartwarming when even the smallest, sweetest of light filters through for these girls.

I couldn't recommend this book more. Not only have I had the joy of experiencing some really wonderful storytelling, but the excellent research and dedication to these characters' experiences has educated me on a piece of history I was formerly (woefully) ignorant about.

I only wish there were more stars.

I enjoyed every chapter. Your writing style is so beautiful and fascinating. The love you portrayed between these two girls was very beautiful and unique. I just couldn't stop reading. Please keep writing awesome books.
