There are three books in the series but they’re not sequential so you don’t have to read them in order. The main characters are the same in the books but are fully introduced at the beginning of each. Each story is suspenseful, but not too complicated to follow. If you like crime type books, you won’t be disappointed.

Good ‘grab ahold’ book right off the bat. Lots of twists and turns. Very surprise ending! A little ‘too good to be true’ policeman at times but all in all a good mystery.

I’ve binged read all 3 books in the series (as of December 2018) and really liked each one. All have had an interesting plot, and I look forward to the characters becoming more fully developed as series progresses. Ms. Murphy is a good storyteller and I could not put down, finishing late into the night.
I do hope some of the repetiveness with Cancini’s head/neck pain and the Captain’s incessant toothpick chewing start to lessen; neither add to the character development and to be mentioned what seems like every few paragraphs, distracts from the story.
But that’s my only negative. I think this is a good series and I hope there are of many, many more installments in the Detective Cancini books!

I love the style of writing of these Detective Cancini books. It is so easy to get into the characters and the mystery is always enough to keep me guessing. I was not correct in what I thought in this one, and I was kept involved until the very end. This author keeps me reading every word instead of skimming like I do on many mysteries to get to the end. I'll be awaiting #4 hopefully!

An interesting police procedural with a great twist. The characters are varied and the plot nicely convoluted. Worth reading and will read more.
