Renegade Women in Film and TV (English Edition) Kindle版
A charmingly illustrated and timely tribute to the women who broke glass ceilings in film and television, debuting during an historic time of change in the entertainment industry.
Renegade Women in Film and TV blends stunning illustrations, fascinating biographical profiles, and exclusive interviews with icons like Barbra Streisand, Rita Moreno, and Sigourney Weaver to celebrate the accomplishments of 50 extraordinary women throughout the history of entertainment. Each profile highlights the groundbreaking accomplishments and essential work of pioneers from the big and small screens, offering little-known facts about household names (Lucille Ball, Oprah Winfrey, Nora Ephron) and crucial introductions to overlooked pioneers (Alla Nazimova, Anna May Wong, Frances Marion). From 19th century iconoclast Alice Guy Blaché to 21st century trailblazer Ava DuVernay, Renegade Women honors the women who succeeded against all odds, changing their industry in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

Gorgeous and insightful look at women behind and in front of the camera!

Elizabeth Weitzman has written an indispensable guide for anyone interested in the important but under-recognized contributions of women to the film and television industry. Weitzman profiles the unsung alongside the famous, writing eloquently of their challenges and accomplishments, and includes a diverse selection of women. How wonderful to see a visionary like Julie Dash included alongside Ava DuVernay and Joan Ganz Cooney; and lesser known names such as Anna May Wong and Irna Phillips in the same pages as Barbra Streisand! The lovely illustrations by Austen Claire Clements complete the profiles, and make this delightful book a perfect choice for birthday and graduation gifts.

I am so pleased with my copy of Renegade Women in Film and TV. Elizabeth Weitzman provides a fun, insightful and brilliant review of women in an industry that often overlooks them. I hope this book makes in on to film school curricula as required reading for students.

Thank you to Elizabeth Weitzman for sending me this finished copy of Renegade Women in Film and TV!
The illustrations are absolutely stunning. There are so many incredible women included in this book that I have never heard of. It was and is still rare for women to be leaders in the industry. So many of these women have written Memoirs and I will be tracking them down in order to read them!
This book will have a permanent home on the coffee table in our living room.
