As the Crow Flies (English Edition) Kindle版
Samantha Weller, a forensic scientist turned paranormal novelist, owes her life and writing career to a crow that saved her from certain death. When she buys an old bookend that looks like her avian muse, her world begins to resemble the plots of her novels.
Determined to find the mate to her bookend, Samantha and her antiquarian sidekick, Liz, go on a search leading them to the beautiful and wealthy Gwen Laraway. Samantha is instantly smitten, but the age difference has Gwen second-guessing Samantha’s interest.
Meanwhile, Liz is crushing on Gwen’s niece, Isabel. As clueless as she is sensuous, Isabel hasn’t had a date since her high school prom ten years ago, and she’s petrified to act on her sudden attraction to Liz.
Romance seems to be blooming all around, but problems arise when a restless ghost emerges from the ether to roam the dark corners of this haunting tale that explores the quantum mechanics of immortality.

Long and satisfying

A writer with a pet crow meets a former professor and her niece when trying to find a match to a bookend she purchased at a garage sale. Strange things occur on the property that will change everything.
This was satisfyingly long. I enjoyed all of the characters and happenings so much that I just enjoyed the ride.
There were two blossoming relationships in this story and I was equally invested in both.
I also felt the mystery was carefully unraveled over time. And I was truly stunned at a point toward the end.
Completely loved this.

Well written

This book is different from the other books I have read from this author. Rather than lighthearted, romantic and humorous, it is romantic and eerie. The idea of having a beloved pet dog die and come back as a murderous evil spirit intent on killing you makes you look at your dog with a bit of a wary eye. Lol. Overall, well written, good characters and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance.

I have to admit, I expected a little more paranormal from this book but it was still a very enjoyable read.

A funny book that's actually funny

So often someone puts out a book as "comic" and it's about as funny as goat smell. You can tell by how often the characters laugh uproariously at each other's "banter" and jokes and you go - really? You think? Well Karen F Williams isn't one of those writers. Hallelujah.
On a stormy night, Samantha should have been killed as a tree fell on her car. Instead, she'd already hopped out to rescue a fledgling crow that's been blown out of its nest and escapes certain squishing. The crow - Bertha - becomes an important part of Samantha's life as she tries to transition from the slog of forensic investigation to crime writer via a character who is... a forensic investigator.
Bertha gives her the idea of a pivot - her investigator takes on a paranormal tinge. Success. But wait - we're flying ahead of the bird. Bertha has a bookend - one of those ceramic things that hold a row of books in place - if you have two of them. Sam has one, but is pointed in the direction of its mate. The china, by the way, is Rookwood - look it up (part of the pleasure!) Enter Dr Gwen Laraway and the companion bookend.
Gwen is older than Sam - a lot older - but Sam is enchanted anyway. Sam's eccentric friend and antique shop owner Liz is seriously taken by Gwen's niece Isabel.
Bertha is not all she seems to be, in fact, she's a lot more, and there are other many twists and turns involving the bird and all kinds of weird goings-on before love conquers all.
It's a delight. Enjoy! Skraaark!!
