The author is a master of writing. The place and people come alive in her word weaving. It is a harsh world of a seafaring village and people. Beautiful characters and deeply rich story of the highs and lows of life in that time.

This is such a wonderfully written and descriptive book that will throw every emotional you. The story follows a young woman called Kerensa. There are secrets in the lives of those around Kerensa that have shaped her life. Curses and superstition have followed her since she was born, but until later in life, she has no idea why.
Happiness, sadness, hope and heartbreak are all themes of this story.
I could smell the salt air and feel the icy wind as I read- Lelita created a beautifully scenic story.
Truly beautiful.

Having already discovered Lelita's other works, I was excited to pick this one up and discover anew her writing style. Following the story of Kerensa, I felt fully immersed in her world from page one. Underpinned by such beautiful description, the book allowed me to be transported to Cornwall, and back through the passage of time. In particular the way foods and smells were depicted really made me drool. Thank you for this gem.

I struggle with the pronunciation of words I don’t know so in my head I might have given the characters non-traditional sounding names, as I got into the book they felt so familiar that they were likely nicknames. The locations and events are so well described that you can imagine yourself there with them. A beautiful story of strength and resilience, I actually even shed a tear. Looking forward to reading more from Lelita.
