Nice pictures

Nice pictures, and it has a good breadth of work, but it's disasterously short on critical writing about the pieces-- little more than a single-sentence mention of the piece. If you're looking to see how many different artists work in a given style, it's OK. If you're looking for critical thought, it's going to leave you empty handed.

Da Vinci would have loved it

This is an extremely welcome and perhaps well overdue survey of the current state of art that takes inspiration from developments science and technology. Stephen Wilson really knows his stuff and has picked an excellent representative cross-section to look at - and they are all well-illustrated throughout, with each section introduced insightfully by Wilson. Though it offers no real depth of coverage to any artist in particular - which is inevitably the nature of an overview - it really gives you some great starting points, as I know enough about some of the artists mentioned in this book to be sure that any further enquiries into any of them will give you far more to consider and enjoy. He also includes a great list of links at the back that helps with this.
I personally have no doubt that we are witnessing a massive shift in the whole idea of art, expression and identity in our culture, and that this is only the beginning of something that will go on and on developing. So it's great to see it brought together by someone who actually knows what they are talking about - and the fact that none of us know where it's heading is all part of the fun.
One warning though - that this book may confuse and irritate those that see art purely as a traditional painting or sculpture. It's not for you, unfortunately, unless you can open your mind.
Highly recommended - Da Vinci would have loved it.

a selection of sci-art from 2000 onwards.
each chapter comes with several pages of introduction followed by catalogue of artwork.
Each is attached with a brief introduction.
The creative mind of these artists is surely impressive
most artwork are not conventional art such as painting and sculpture, a new and daring territory

Visually disappointing

I was an undergrad zoology major and now, on the side, I am an artist member at several collectives- I like to incorporate science and math elements into my work, because, of course, it is what I know. This book has very few pictures of examples of pieces where art and science collided; furthermore, the pieces that it does have as examples have very short descriptions. I would have liked to learned more how these images, etc., were created and more about the artist's vision. Don't get me wrong, I like to read about art...but for a large book like this, I was expecting many more images and descriptions of the unique processes used to create the images.

It is Nothing special. I really wait more about the convergence between art. and science. It doesn't happen. For academic goals is a poor work. Just good.
