Bill The Vampire: A Comedy of Undead Proportions (The Tome of Bill Book 1) (English Edition) Kindle版
Loud-mouthed gamer Bill Ryder thought the dice had finally rolled in his favor when he met Sally. Sadly, his triumph quickly turned into a critical failure - leaving him at death’s door with his throat torn out.
Now he’s a vampire, trapped in a world of monsters that are stronger, deadlier, and a hell of a lot cooler. They’re giving him just ninety days to prove he has what it takes to be an apex predator of the night, assuming he doesn’t give them a reason to dust his ass sooner.
This game isn't over yet, though. Turns out a vamp like Bill hasn’t been seen in centuries. He’s got a few tricks up his sleeve, unexpected allies, and an attitude that's too obnoxious to quit. He’ll need all that and more if he doesn’t want to end up even deader than last time.
Join him in this hilarious tale of bloodthirsty beasts, gory mayhem, and an unlikely hero who's still at the bottom of the food chain.

So
Nerds against vamps.
A. It predictable, but well executed and fun to read

Ok first things first, the technical. I really didn’t find anything wrong with the book. There were no glaring misspellings or punctuations or anything. Or if there were I was so into the book that they didn’t register to me. The story flowed well and the characters well put together, at least in my opinion.
Let’s discuss characters, shall we? The author actually describes what I fear the vampire community would be like… much like any frat guy out of pretty much any comedy ever made. Tall, good looking and a complete tool. Total elitist. In Bill’s own words… a douche. And like said douche he would surround himself with the same type of sycophants that would suck up to him and give him the ego stroking that comes along with that. Bill points it out several times that he (and the other potential victims) are the only ones who don’t look like they are supermodels or just stepped out of a catalogue. At this point in the story I do have a small problem. I get the gathering of the nerds as a game for the superior feeling vamps but I wasn’t sure why they turned them into vampires just to kill them. Seemed a bit of an unnecessary risk especially considering what happens to Bill. When he awakens he ends up being what’s called a freewill… he is not susceptible to compulsion by the older vamps. Not only that but turns out he can feed off other vamps which was thought to be impossible. These two factors give Bill a much needed edge to survive since his creator wants him dead. But despite some advantages it sucks for Bill, at least as far as he is concerned, is that even being immortal and having powers he doesnt get to become one of the beautiful people.
We want Bill to live because despite being a geek or a nerd he is likable. He could be one of a dozen guys I have known in my life. Hell I myself am similar to Bill, I collect comic books, I play video games granted not to the extent of our hero but you get the point.
The best part of Bill? He knows he is a nerd and is mostly OK with it but he has developed the nerds’ survival trait of being a smart ass. His quips and remarks remind me of Ash from Army of Darkness or Jack Burton from John Carpenters Big Trouble in Little China. It’s just hilarious to hear his sometime internal often external running monologue.
The story offers some interesting twists on the vampire legend and their strengths and weaknesses. The story is fresh and just fun. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
