I lost a lot of time reading this book as it was too easy to just keep reading. Some other books can give too much detail and some seem to add too much bland filler but not this one. There was just the right amount action, humour and background though the latter still has room to expand. I'm definitely interested as to how this adventure continues and if it will remain upbeat and fresh.

This is what I like/dislike about this book (and all other books of this series, though not all deserve my 5star rating, but none is below 4stars):

pros
- characters: the protagonists are heroes in their own ways, but they are not flawless
- romance: yes, there is definitely a romance aspect, but while the reader may sneak a glimpse of some physical attraction he/she does not have to share any intimate bedroom scenes, what a relieve!
- suspense: there are always turns and twists, never a dull moment
- humor: smart and witty, not many *laughing out loud* moments but plenty of chuckles
- dialogs: I just love listening to them talking to each other, quick witted and engaging
- plot: sometimes I do have to remind myself that this is a novel and, yes, the one good guy will beat the 20 bad guys. And, to tell the truth: that’s the way I like it. However unlikely, plots are well thought out and without smothering holes.
- even though the story goes on in following books in the series, there is no cliffhanger at the end of this book - there are two books later in the series with cliffhangers. However - you want to read them all, anyway ;)

cons
believe it or not, I do not have any dislikes. It’s even edited well. However, while it did not bug me but some readers might want to know:
- fighting and death scenes are plentiful and do have some graphic description
- while romance is part of the book, the action/suspense does have a much (!) bigger part
- the book is full of very descriptive but not commonly used adverbs and adjectives. eBook readers benefit from a dictionary.

Comprei a coleção com os 3 livros na Amazon. A série, muito bem sucedida, tem outros livros, que já comprei mas ainda estou lendo. Leitura empolgante, com personagens envolventes, trama bem escrita e uma visão da ficção científica incomum, ao menos para mim, que sou recém chegado ao mundo do steam punk. A trama é passada num mundo onde alguns povos desenvolveram a capacidade psíquica, enquanto o país mais poderoso militarmente optou por desenvolver a ciência tradicional, negando as ciências mentais, classificando-as como mágica. Uma leitura envolvente e que recomendo muito.

As always Lindsey delivers. These first three Emperors Edge books had me reading them back to back, driving my husband mad. Characters, plot and story amazing. I am desperate for A and S to get off for some sheet tangling..I cannot wait. Am off to get all the others in the series of EE. If you havn'read this author yet i highly recommend. Have even managed to get my husband to start reading Lindsey s books and he is on his second and enjoying them.

Exhilarating. All that steampunk should be. Inventive. Wicked humor. Wild plots. Kick-ass heroine, silent assassin. Good read for the bored and listless.
