Apocalypticon (The Apocalypticon Series Book 1) (English Edition) Kindle版
"Equal parts Mad Max and Monty Python...one hilarious, harrowing and heart-wrenching tale."
"...[Smith] deftly balances humor, suspense, action, and sorrow (sometimes all within the same passage)."
Clayton Smith's astounding debut novel has redefined the post-apocalyptic genre.
Three years have passed since the Jamaicans caused the apocalypse, and things in post-Armageddon Chicago have settled into a new kind of normal. Unfortunately, that "normal" includes collapsing skyscrapers, bands of bloodthirsty maniacs, and a dwindling cache of survival supplies. After watching his family, friends, and most of the non-sadistic elements of society crumble around him, Patrick decides it's time to cross one last item off his bucket list.
He's going to Disney World.
This hilarious, heartfelt, gut-wrenching odyssey through post-apocalyptic America is a pilgrimage peppered with peril, as fellow survivors Patrick and Ben encounter a slew of odd characters, from zombie politicians and deranged survivalists to a milky-eyed oracle who doesn't have a lot of good news. Plus, it looks like Patrick may be hiding the real reason for their mission to the Magic Kingdom...

レポート
The jokes get tiring sometimes but they don't detract from the story. It was a quick read which speaks to how interesting it was. It could have easily been longer and I'd have gladly kept reading. It'll kick you in the gut once in a while and that's a good thing.

A hilarious fast paced story. Not a massive apocalypse fan and bought because of the author but thoroughly enjoyed it and so glad the second one has already been released so I don’t have to wait! 100% recommended!

A rollicking tale

In a world that has become way too serious for its own good, Clayton Smith has given the middle finger to all of that and given the proper amount of humour to the wasteland.
Never a dull moment in search of a quest.

I never expected the Apocalypse to be this much fun! Not my usual genre, but having read another of Clayton Smiths books I had to try this one. I was Not disappointed! Original storyline, well defined characters and an adventure full of surprises and humor! This is an Author to follow, I have read his other books and thoroughly enjoyed each one. If you have a sense of humor (or need one ) and enjoy Original plots and characters you have found the author to scratch that itch! Enjoy!

Certain genres tend to fall into a groove that's seldom deviated from. Post-apocalypse fiction is an example. From Mad Max to The Walking Dead, the format is pretty much the same even if the particular circumstances, situations, landscapes and villains are tailored to each work. It's always refreshing to see someone take the predictable and refashion it, re-imagined it and come up with something fresh...and that is exactly what Clayton Smith accomplished with Apocalypticon. The book is like a strange mix of Apocalypse, Now, It's A Mad, Mad, Mad World and Satyricon. This isn't a tale of survival after the fall, but rather, a story of coping. The oddball rogues gallery of characters the two heroes encounter on their journey from Chicago to Orlando haven't been transformed by the events that brought civilization to its knees...they're the same people they've always been trying to navigate their way through the ruins of the world they once knew. Some are opportunists who simply see a new way to profit, others cling to a notion of a life that probably never existed to begin with, and others, released from the grind of their old day-to-day existence find a strange freedom to express themselves in a way that had been impossible before. All of them are trying to fit themselves into the new reality as best they can, and as wretched or ridiculous as they might be, Smith gives them all vulnerable humanity. Best friends Patrick and Ben are the everymen set against the broken buildings, bombed out bridges, crumbling cities and human debris that seem to have an eerie resemblance to our real life culture that's on the wane. They banter and snipe and continue threads of conversations that wind back long before the apocalypse. Smith gives his version of the post-apocalyptic world a strange sense of hope...after "the fall" the sun will come back and life will go on. The book is funny, but there's heart behind the humor. It's sad but never maudlin, and in the end it's about human nature more than survival. Clayton Smith has written a great and very enjoyable story.
