Ze is learning what he is as shifter but also learning that he really cares for Max. Even when trouble comes calling for the sisters, he knows he belongs. Lots going on with more characters in the book, with lots of laughs. Could not put book down.

As usual, I absolutely loved this book. The first laugh out loud moment came on page 2 of Chapter 1 (I managed to get through the prologue with merely a number of smiles) and then it became almost embarrassing. I do a lot of reading in the conservatory, with the door open when it's warm, and had to practise silent laughing so that the neighbours didn't think I'd succumbed to Lockdown Madness.

This novel is multilayered when it comes to plot(s) development and it was so good to meet so many of the characters from earlier books in the Pride series. Indeed, we're taken back to the very beginning, chronologically, as we revisit Irene, Miki and Dez. Perfect! If I could have one wish it would be that Shelly Laurenston - and her alter ego G. A. Aiken - could publish more than one or two books a year but when they're of this quality and length (and they always are), they are sooooo worth waiting for.

However, there are bound to be one or two potentially new readers scanning these reviews so I'd like to issue a warning I've given before. If you're new to Shelly Laurenston, please don't begin with this book. Most of the plot lines are continuations of threads started in the previous Honey Badger novels - or even earlier - while the dozens (hundreds?) of characters could be very confusing if you don't know their backstories. I've read a few reviews in the past by readers who've simply failed to "get" this writer's books because they haven't read previous works and thus can't cope with the complexities of plot and character.

If you're a new reader, at the very least begin with the first Honey Badger novel and if you want the very best experience go back to where it all began. For me, that would be with the 3 book Magnus Pack series and Miss Congeniality from When He Was Bad, followed by the 9 (or so) books in the Pride series. The early books were good but they just got better and better as each new one was published.

And then, of course, if you're a new reader and have devoured all those you'll be totally addicted and ready to explore the Dragons of G. A. Aiken. I'm almost jealous :)

Roll on the next book set in this world. I can't wait.

Just when you think the Author has out done herself she creates another instalment of her series. Although I have to stress she really has hit her stride with the honey badgers, and Max never disappoints
